Study on Scholarship

A PhD Position in decentralized and distributed control and filtering is available at the School of Engineering and IT, University of New South Wales @ ADFA, Canberra, Australia. PhD Scholarship in Decentralized and Distributed Control and Filtering Algorithms scholarship 2010 - 2011

Project Details

The coordination of multi-agent systems is one of the most active topics in the current control and systems literature. One of the central problems here is to develop distributed control and filtering algorithms based on local information that enables all agents to reach an agreement on quantities of interest (the consensus problem). The project will involve the development of generalized consensus rules and corresponding control and filtering algorithms to allow the agents to be connected into a network so that they achieve agreement when their dynamics are subject to noise and uncertain disturbances.

Application Process

The successful applicant is anticipated to have a first-class honours degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or other relevant areas, with specialization in control theory and control applications.

All applicants are expected to possess excellent communication and research skills and should satisfy UNSW admission requirements for the PhD program.

Admission details are available at

Applications should include a detailed CV, including email addresses of two referees, a copy of academic transcripts and a cover letter detailing the applicant’s research interest and its relevance to the project.

Potential applicants should discuss their application and forward their paperwork via email to Associate Professor Valery Ugrinovskii, email:

The deadline for applications is 31 January 2010 or until the position filled, for a possible starting date of July 2010 or earlier.
